The Wall Street Journal reported that Amid Missteps, Yahoo’s Terry Semel Resigns as CEO. The Board of Directors has appointed Jerry Yang, Yahoo! co-founder and long-time board member, as Chief Executive Officer and also named Susan Decker, formerly Executive Vice President and Head of Advertiser and Publisher Group, as President of the company. In Yahoo media relations press release Yahoo said,
We are incredibly fortunate to have – with Jerry and Sue – two uniquely gifted executives who are exactly what the company needs to build on the progress we’ve made in recent months. And, we appreciate your willingness to serve as non-executive Chairman and be an advisor and important resource for this new management team.
Jerry Yang has stated in his personal blog about Semel that,
I will always be grateful for the incredible achievements under his leadership — and for his mentorship and friendship. We’ll continue to benefit from his support and guidance as he transitions to his role as our Chairman.
He also stated that,
I have the great honor of stepping into the role of Yahoo!’s Chief Executive Officer. Yahoo! has an incredibly bright future and I make this move with deep conviction and enthusiasm.
Yahoo’s PR News has also stated about Semel’s resignation.
