Sankranthi, is the festival celebrated in Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra and Karnataka. This also called as Lohri in northern parts of India. Through this festival the farmers offer their prayers to the Surya, the Sun God. This can even be considered as the Thanks Giving Day. It is from this day onwards, the Sun would move towards north indicating the start of the summer season.

It’s called Pongal in Tamilnadu. Pongal is a four-day festival. The first day is Bhogi, where people shed off their old things (cloths, mat, etc.,) and burn them. The second day is the Pongal, where people offer their prayers and thank the Sun God, Surya. The third day is the Mattu Pongal, where competition to control the bulls were held. The fourth and the last day is Kanuma Pongal, where people meet their relatives, friends and go out to beaches, cinema, etc.,
