The percentage of the single keyword search is getting reduced (from 13.5% last year to 11.5% this year 2006). So, as a result, people (SEO & SEM) would be moving towards multi-word search terms slowly. There are several reasons for this. The single word search term is more generic. And hence the relevance (CTR) would be low for such keywords resulting in a high spending eventually. Added to this, the bidding amount is also very high for these generic single word search terms, because of more competition. And in spite of all, comparatively we get lower rank for such single word search terms.
But on the contrary, the multi-words search terms are more specific to the targeted market or niche. This results in better relevance (CTR) and comparatively lower spending in the long run. Also we get advantage in the bidding amount as well. Hence we get more chance to show up in many places with better ranking comparatively.
