Before we go any further on that topic, let me tell you that IMHO DMOZ is very difficult to get listed in and more importantly if you change your site theme, it is a very difficult task to have the change reflect in DMOZ(change your description). Also DMOZ descriptions are devoid of any marketing talk(DMOZ editors dont allow that) and that is a big problem for many SEOs.
Now to the news…
Loren Baker of Searchenginejournal points to us to a thread at webmasterworld thats discusses how “MSN Search might be testing DMOZ Descriptions”. To quote some of his words from his blog post on this topic…
“site publishers have been noticing that the default descriptions of their web sites which are served in the MSN Search results are being provided by the Netscape Open Directory Project (DMOZ). While Google has been using the DMOZ for some index descriptions for years, this is the first occurrence of such results in MSN Search, fortifying the importance of listings in the DMOZ authoritative directory.”
Are you seeing such results in MSN search?
