Techcrunch and Readwriteweb has discussed about how Flickr ate Yahoo! photos. Yahoo has planned to close its online photosharing website Yahoo! Photos in favour of Flickr.
According to web metrics firm Hitwise, Yahoo! Photos is currently the number 2 photo website on the web, behind Photobucket, which has seized 40% of the market on the back of strong usage among MySpace visitors.
According to Charlene Li of Forrester Research,
Flickr, meanwhile, has gained on Yahoo!’s main photo property, jumping from the #6 photo website last year, to the #3 position today.
Flickr generally offers most of the tools that Yahoo! Photos offers. Flickr has also started to offer some printed products, such as photo cards via a partnership with Moo.
Yahoo Photos is currently the largest photo sharing site on the Internet, with around 2 billion stored photos. Flickr, by comparison, has around 500 million photos. But Flickr is also growing much faster than Yahoo photos and has just exceeded Yahoo! Photos in traffic, according to Comscore.

This March, Google for the first time edged Microsoft in the number of unique visitors reports SFGate.com. Earlier this week we had an update about the world’s most powerful brand from Brandz Top 100 and once again Google passes Microsoft.
The top 5 most visited sites according to comscore,
- Google … 528 million
- Microsoft … 527 million
- Yahoo … 476 million
- Time Warner … 272 million
- eBay … 256 million
From the report,
Google had 528 million unique visitors in March, up 5 percent from the previous month, according to comScore. Microsoft had 527 million visitors during the same month, up 3.7 percent.
Google has achieved it not only because of search but also e-mail service, online maps and personalized home pages. YouTube also fetched a lot a traffic to Google. Google still trails in the amount of time global users spend on its properties: an average of 4.6 minutes compared to 12.8 minutes on Microsoft.
Despite Google’s current strength, Bowker, from Santa Clara University, emphasized that Google’s winning streak isn’t guaranteed in the future. He recalled a number of companies that once seemed invincible later faltered, including IBM and General Motors.
